One aspect that is often overlooked when treating lakes is the silt that contains organic matter such as dead leaves and algae. Though this silt is mostly harmless when it is static on the lake bed, it can easily be stirred up by boats or wildlife, causing the trapped phosphates to be released into the water. The bacteria within the silt require a lot of oxygen, and if they do not get enough, they can turn anaerobic and produce harmful toxic substances that can cause immense harm to the lake.
The Oase SchlixX lake treatment addresses both of these issues by focusing on the silt. The treatment releases a large amount of oxygen into the water to encourage aerobic bacterial processes and also binds the huge amount of phosphates present in the silt. This process pulls the phosphates out of solution and turns them into the insoluble mineral apatite. Unlike phosphates, this mineral cannot be used by algae cells and is totally harmless to wildlife.
Other silt treatments on the market do not bind the phosphates, leaving them in the lake water, which encourages future algae growth.
The SchlixX is available in 10kg, 25kg, 50kg or 500kg units. This treatment is only suitable for treatment of silt made up of organic material (i.e. not sand).
